Dr. Vélez Vega completed a PhD. in Social Policy Research and Analysis, Graduate School of Social Work, at the University of Puerto Rico Rio Piedras Campus, and a MSW, and BSW from Florida State University School of Social Work.
She is Chair of the Social Sciences Department at the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus, School of Public Health, and is a tenured Associate Professor. She has ample experience in community engagement activities and teaches in this area in the Schools MPH and Doctorate programs. She is part of the Faculty of the new Doctorate in Public Health in Social Determinants of Health program, and founding member of the Latin American Center for Sexual Health Promotion. She designs and teaches course in sexual health of LGBTT people for Public Health and other Health professionals.
